6, Lebuh Armenian, George Town, Penang Island 10200 Malaysia
Shofin
Walking by means of Georgetown's Armenian Street, among its great attractions, We discovered this tiny café along with Chinese reddish lanterns at the front end. What was produced right here, fascinated me immediately. Currently when checking in within my resort I was provided a Nutmeg Fruit juice, which Iquite enjoyed. Something I had in no way tasted before, not in the well-known nutmeg creating Caribbean island of Grenada, that i had visited 2 yrs before. At this really small place with only a handful of chair I could view how this juice - thus unique for Penang - was made. It will get squeezed from the fleshy fruit round the tough seed and its own surrounding orange-coloured covering (macis), which otherwise is most likely considered as waste. The nutmeg juice is served with a sour plum, as here, thus an extremely Chinese product: a 'Prunus Salicina', preserved with salt and sugar. The Uk had delivered the nutmeg tree, which originally originates from the Moluccas, via numerous detours to the Straits Settlements, and the Peranakan, the Chinese immigrants will need to have invented - incorporating their sour plum - this now sort of Penang national drink.
