Nasi Sumatera identifies Nasi Padang (title of an area in main western Sumatera island). Usually the idea is “we last all the dishes we've, you just pay for everything you eat, once you have eaten”. The localised version of it sprung allover Kota Bharu in the 60’s and some have survived even today. Hj Ismail is really a legacy of Osman Larin that were only available in Jalan Gajah Mati and contains moved to its present location beneath the present name. The number of dishes might not be many compared to various other Sumatera eateries around, however the price is reasonable (expect around RM15-20 per head). The drinks could be priced a tad higher. The proprietor sublets the area from the specific shop proprietor, who monopolise the beverages. That is the offer: “you operate and market your dishes just, we exclusively offer the beverages”. So expect the dog owner to hike the costs of the drinks. In all, an excellent eat with reasonable costs (in accordance with similar eateries) however the location has limited tables so come earlier for lunch to beat the crowd (the don’t do dinner).
