We visited the Mermaid Cafe in August 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed the eating experience. The Boxing Poultry (deep-fried poultry wing cutlets completely seasoned with salt and pepper) started points off - it had been easily among the best fried poultry wing dishes I'd actually sampled!The Mermaid's Signature Soup (fresh mint simply leaves, fish ball and egg fall) was also very good - served steaming hot (simply the way I love it!). For the mains, there is a multitude of fish available - stingray, grouper, mackerel, pomfret, salmon, red-colored snapper, threadfin and jade perch - and something had either 3 sauces to accompany the seafood - signature sambal chilli paste, garlic butter and homemade pesto. For all of us, the standout mixture here has been the stingray and signature sambal chilli paste - gloriously flavoursome and easily among the best spicy fish meals I'd ever tasted! I had no issue with the slightly restricted choice of desserts as the extremely tasty and refreshing Fruity Lemon Grass Jelly (fresh lemon grass, grass jelly, rock sugars and mixed fresh fruits) perfectly concluded our dinner. The owners Alex Tan and his wife Shiau Chean were readily available to provide expert help with the menu options and excellent customer support. The restaurant was incredibly clean and featured a stylish and comfortable decoration. I completely recommend the Mermaid Cafe to all or any Penangites and tourists.

I love fish. I must say i love fish. The mermaid really delivered. The fish soup was refreshing and an excellent preparation for what’s ahead. The grouper steak was grilled to perfection and the Sambal sauce went perfectly with it and wasn’t too spicy. Itwas so excellent that, for the very first time ever, We ordered a SECOND primary dish - the sting ray, this time around with garlic butter sauce. It had been very special in flavor and texture. Actually the sides of salad and French fries were perfectly made. The price is quite reasonable for these delicacies and the service was friendly but professional. Oh and the WiFi is blazing quick. I predict that place will get very popular inside a year or so. I’m looking towards get back to Penang simply therefore i could visit this eating place again.

The seafood is merely amazing. It really is so refreshing and affordability! I simply dined at Rech in HK final Fri (1*Michelin) and We honestly could say that the standard of seafood here very easily surpassed the product quality at Rech. I would strongly suggest tryingthe chef’s homemade pesto sauce when purchasing your seafood. We'd it with the snapper and we regretted not really getting one for every of us. The stingray was excellent. We arrived at about 8:30 pm. The area was empty. We had been worried if we produced the right decision. Then your stingray was offered. It had been perfectly grilled, new and tender with the proper dose of Sambal. Very quickly thefish was gone. This place deserved more support.

We arrived at Penang frequently but this is the first time we've been to The Mermaid Cafe. Wish we'd known about any of it on previous outings - not only since it is near to the resort where we usually stay but since it wassuch an excellent experience. The owners did a really congrats of converting two little terrace shop houses right into a modern comfy space over two flooring which highlights its heritage elements but also helps it be something brand new and bold. But most of all the food was excellent. Tasty and nicely presented. The service personnel and owner were helpful and efficient. It is a new design for Penang and we recommend you take a look. We wish the proprietors luck in an exceedingly competitive atmosphere and in these difficult economic times.
