On this blessed Friday, the YummyAdvisor team went down to Gombak to try out the cheapest chicken chop in the area! The merchant is located in the same area as the Masjid Jamek Saad Bin Abi Waqqas. If you’re trying to locate the merchant while on the road, just keep an eye out for red-coloured canopies! Upon arriving, we looked at their menu and were delighted to feast on western cuisine. Let’s check out what they served us, one by one.
Coke, A&W, Sprite, & Strawberry Float (RM6)
The first to arrive at our table were the beverages. We were served with four glasses of coke, A&W, sprite, & strawberry float. One sip of each beverage, and you’d know that they were poured straight from the bottle. To describe the beverages in a straightforward sentence: they are your favourite carbonated drink at its finest, with an added scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
Paksu Fiesta (RM42)
The next dish that was served was one of the enormous plates out of the whole bunch, which was Paksu Fiesta. This dish consists of nuggets, meatballs, three pieces of black pepper sausages, coleslaw, fries, chicken chop, aglio olio, as well as three small bowls in the middle of the plate filled with three different kinds of sauces, which were black pepper sauce, mayonnaise, and chilli sauce. When we took a bite of the nugget, it tasted fresh, as if it had just been cooked despite being left out in the open air while we were shooting for photos and videos (one of our team even said that the nugget reminded him of Ramly’s chicken nuggets). The meatballs, on the other hand, tasted just fine; you could tell that they weren’t homemade as you could taste a lot of flour in the mix.
Spaghetti Carbonara (RM14.90)
Then, we were served with a plate of spaghetti carbonara. From the picture itself, you could tell that they were generous with the sauce. You might be worried that it will make you feel queasy but fret not! The sauce was not thick; it was pretty light but not to the point it tasted like soup though. Aside from that, with a spoonful of the spaghetti carbonara, you can point out a peppery taste to the sauce, which causes the dish to be a tad bit spicy.
Chicken Grill + Aglio Olio (RM20.90)
The third dish of the evening was the chicken grill + aglio olio. For those who came to the merchant with an empty stomach, you can definitely order this dish as it will most probably make you full by the end of the day. A bite of both the chicken grill and aglio olio will make your mouth burst with all different kinds of flavours, from spicy to a little bit salty, as well as juiciness and a tad bit of oil from the chicken grill.
Chicken Chop (RM8.90)
Next up was a plate of chicken chop. The dish's presentation is quite like what you would expect when ordering a plate of chicken chop. The outer texture of the chicken chop was crunchy, which is what you’d want; the insides were tender, easy to chew, and a good combination overall, especially when eaten with the black pepper sauce. It was a bit oily, but we didn’t mind.
Lamb Chop (RM10.90)
The fifth dish served was the lamb chop. Now, of course, when you were expecting to eat a plate of lamb chop, you would get excited, especially since you don’t eat lamb chop every day, and the one that this merchant is selling is very wallet-friendly! However, we were a bit disappointed as the texture of the lamb was very firm, which made it quite a hassle to chew.
Nasi Goreng Chicken Grill (RM14.90)
Last but not least was the nasi goreng chicken grill. The rice and chicken grill combination was designed for those who want a little bit of Malay cuisine mixed with western cuisine. Personally, I’m pretty picky when it comes to fried rice; therefore, I didn’t find myself enjoying the fried rice that much. But you would most probably have a different experience. What I do like, though, from this dish was the chicken grill, as it was very juicy and pleasant to eat.
To wrap it up, Paksu Chicken Chop is a great place to dine if you are looking for somewhere outdoors and cheap. All in all, the team enjoyed our dinner here and we hope you do too!
